After being awarded a prize at the Axion Classics Competition, Kris started his higher music education with Marc Tooten at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven (BE), where he obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees with the highest distinction. He pursued his studies at Maastricht (NL), where he is awarded a second Bachelor’s. He then continued his education with Bruno Pasquier in Paris (FR) and followed master classes with Paul Silverthorne, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Paul Coletti, Andreyi Viytovich, Tabea Zimmermann and other classical music icons.
Since 2006 Kris Hellemans has been viola soloist with the Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen (Flanders Symphony Orchestra). He moreover regularly replaces soloists at several Belgian orchestras.
In parallel to his orchestral duties, Kris specialises in chamber music. In this context he has followed master classes with important ensembles or music personalities such as the Artemis and Danel Quartets, Heime Müller, Eberhard Feltz, Roger Chase and Renaud Capuçon.
From 2008 to 2014 Kris performed within the Alfama Quartet in well-known venues such as the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and Charleroi or the main hall of the Brussels Conservatory.
At present he concentrates his efforts on a vocal-instrumental ensemble called Revue Blanche which he founded in 2010 together with his Brussels colleagues.
