Joris Van den Hauwe is without a shadow of a doubt one of the leading contemporary oboists. His myriad performances and recordings, which cross the entire musical spectrum, from baroque to avant-garde, are always given an enthusiastic reception by both the public and the press.
He is acknowledged as being one of the key ambassadors of the Flemish oboe school, thanks to his masterly musicianship, flawless technique and instantly recognisable personal tone and phrasing.
He won several prizes at the Brussels Royal Music Conservatory for oboe, chamber music, harmony and counterpoint. Studying under the supervision of Paul Dombrecht he graduated with a higher education diploma for oboe performance (summa cum laude). He was invited to perform with the European Youth Orchestra, conducted by Claudio Abbado, in 1983.
Joris Van den Hauwe is still much sought after as a soloist by most Belgian orchestras and orchestras further afield: the ‘Münchener Kammerorchester’, ‘The Polish Chamber Philharmonic Society’, ‘Harmonices Mundi’, ‘Slovenska Filharmonia’, ‘L’Orchestre de Chambre d’Auvergne’, ‘Orfeo’…
In the light of his love for chamber music he has performed with many famous ensembles: ‘Amadeus Quartett’, the ‘Tokyo String Quartet’, the ‘Salzburger Solisten’, the ‘Pro Arte Quartet’ and leadings musicians : Hermann Baumann, Michala Petri, Hans-Jörg Schellenberger, Karlheinz Zöller, Jeremy Menuhin, Mark Dobrinsky, David Geringas, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Luz Leskowitz, Francis Orval, Peter Frankl, Walter Boeykens, Pol Cortese, Giselle Herbert, Marc Grauwels, Thomas Bloch, Wolfgang Shulz and Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden…
As a solo artist he is regularly invited to perform at flagship festivals: Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein, Ars Musica, Festival van Vlaanderen, Salzburger Shlosskonzerte, Festival de l’Eté Mosan and Europalia… Against this background he has performed in highly distinguished concert halls: Grosser Musikverein Wien, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space, Salle Pleyel, Liederhalle Stuttgart, De Doelen, Palais des Beaux-Arts, deSingel….
